Our Mission

It is our mission to actively encourage healthy relationships by increasing self-esteem and independence in young women to prevent and respond to intimate partner violence.

Our Story

Founded in 2013 by Tracy Evanson, Healed Women Heal is a nonprofit organization designed to empower young women through a variety of programs and resources addressing the root causes of intimate partner violence.

Healed Women Heal believes that, with the appropriate knowledge and support, young women can avoid intimate partner violence of any kind.

Healed Women Heal started as a way to connect survivors with one another. Our original support network was founded on 1 key principle: hope. As Healed Women Heal grew, hope remained at the core of everything we did. We started an outreach program to deliver "baskets of hope" filled with necessities to survivors of abuse who were temporarily residing in emergency shelters. As we evolved, we also began to focus on empowerment. We began hosting 2 annual events where our support network came together and survivors were able to share their testimonials. Now, Healed Women Heal is adding prevention and education to our focus. We believe that the only way to ensure that no woman experiences intimate partner violence is to educate and empower them.

Our Approach

Healed Women Heal recognizes that young women have unique experiences with dating and relationships. Because of this, we take a value-based, holistic approach to addressing intimate partner violence.

Prevention

Our prevention approach emphasizes the knowledge required to establish healthy relationships from the start. The 3 key knowledge areas we focus on are:

  1. How to establish healthy boundaries prior to dating
  2. How to identify and respond to red flags & warning signs
  3. Understanding the characteristics of healthy relationships and how they differ from abusive relationships

Response

Our response approach is built to support women currently experiencing or recovering from intimate partner violence. This approach follows a 5 step program:

  1. Navigating the complex decision-making process when leaving an unhealthy relationship
  2. A survivor-centered approach to emotional healing
  3. Developing an individual's unique character through empowerment
  4. Reaching one's full potential through a collaborative approach to change
  5. Safety planning for the future

Empowerment

Our empowerment approach combines current scientific research on intimate partner violence with real-life experience to address root cause. The specific causes our services address are:

  • The Power and Control Wheel
  • Economic dependence and abuse
  • An absent/weak support system
  • Self-esteem and self-efficacy
